HOGGS HOLLOW

Forest Hill was incorporated as a village in 1923 and was one of the last two villages to be annexed by the City of Toronto in 1967. Previously known as Spadina Heights, Forest Hill South is among the city's most prestigious neighbourhoods. Old building codes and by-laws dating back to the 1920's and 30's, require that all Forest Hill homes be designed by an architect and that a tree be planted at the front of each property, leaving a legacy of beauty that preserves its reputation as one of Toronto's wealthiest and exclusive communities.

The 'forest' in the name has long since disappeared but there are gentle hills along with curving roads, large brick and stone homes on large lots, and quaint parks. The Upper Village is occupied by mostly Georgian and Tudor styles, but there is also architectural styles ranging in English Country Manors and

French Colonial. Gated entrances and sculpture gardens are not unknown in the wide variety of homes in the neighbourhood.

Average household income: $100,000 - $400,000

Average estate cost: $3.25 million.

SCHOOLS

Forest Hill's schools are among the best in the country. They include two of Canada's most revered private schools: Upper Canada College for boys, and Bishop Strachan School for girls.

Boasting two of the country's most prominent private schools: Upper Canada College and Bishop Strachan School for boys and girls respectively, Forest Hill South also has a Montessori school for the younger end of the student spectrum and Forest Hill Collegiate, a public high school.

SHOPPING

For amenities, Yonge and Eglinton has two movie theatres connected by an underground mall that offer many things in a short jaunt. Yorkdale Shopping Centre has all the major retail chains (and a movie theatre); conveniently located just to the north of the neighbourhood, it also has its own dedicated TTC station on the subway line. It's clear that the formerly seen as 'old guard' neighbourhood of Forest Hill is still in step with the times, not to mention just a few steps away from all you need. For big box shopping, local residents go to Fortinos at the Allen Road and Lawrence Avenue, the Metro at Bathurst and Lawrence, or the Loblaws at St. Clair and Bathurst. Clothing and home décor shops as well as pricey specialty boutiques can also be found along Eglinton Avenue West.
